Fearless is looking for a Software Engineer III (Ruby on Rails) to add to our diverse team of 140+ employees (and counting!).

What you'll be doing:

We're looking to change the world by building software with a soul, and we want your help.

The Software Engineer III develops, maintains, and enhances complex and diverse software systems based upon technical direction and requirements. Reviews and tests software components for adherence to the design requirements and documents test results. Utilizes software development and software design methodologies appropriate to the development environment.

Provides analysis of the software components in the system design such as hardware/software trade-offs, software reuse, use of COTS/GOTS in place of new development, and requirements analysis and synthesis from system level to individual software components.

  • This position is located in Baltimore office.
  • This position has the flexibility to support some remote work / telecommuting.
  • During COVID, this position will be 100% remote.

  • Be an owner of the team's software, assessing the need for clean up, improvements, and the long-term sustainability of our codebase and weighing the opportunity cost against deadlines, etc.
  • Collaborate with talented designers, product managers, and fellow engineers to plan and build new features that are the best possible solutions given circumstances and risk
  • Write robust, scalable, well-designed software that delivers great value, is easy to maintain, and well tested
  • Push and refine our technology, user experience, and technical practices
  • Build up junior engineers through direct mentorship and strategic processes
  • Help develop effective processes for ensuring our products have high quality code and minimal defects
  • Lead in all phases of the development lifecycle from task creation to production deployment of new code
  • Review other developers code and provide specific, constructive feedback
  • Collaborate effectively with team members, leaders, and managers to meet the project outcomes

As well as:

  • Experience with Ruby on Rails(required)
  • Comprehensive knowledge of JavaScript
  • Experience deploying systems (AWS/Heroku/Digital Ocean/other)
  • Experience with JSON/YAML
  • Relational Database Development with experience with PostgreSQL, MySQL, or similar databases
  • Familiarity with REST approaches for API communication
  • Experience as a developer and applying Object Oriented Programming (OOP) techniques, as appropriate
  • Experience with TDD/BDD using RSpec/Jasmine/etc.
  • Familiarity with JavaScript, Devops, AWS

  • Business Interview - At this point, you've made it to the final frontier! The Business Interview is when you'll meet with Fearless leadership to dot the i's, cross the t's, and determine whether or not we'll be moving forward with the hiring process.
