Our work depends on a Software Developer with Ruby on Rails and AWS experience joining our team to support government client activities in Herndon, VA. In this role, a typical day will include some of these job responsibilities listed below: * Provide full lifecycle software development on mid-size software development team. * Provide technical support to the Customer Service Center as they handle requests from end-users of the system. This includes finding solutions to technical problems, correcting data integrity issues, making changes to the system to improve productivity, handling special data requests and joining in on client calls to discuss technical and/or policy topics related to the system. * Research reported problems in the production system to determine causes and solutions. In cases where a software bug is apparent, this includes writing fully researched system change requests to expedite resolution of the problems. * Provide technical assistance to other members of the team such as writing/reviewing SQL to satisfy ad-hoc data requests and assisting newer developers as they learn the project's coding standards and practices. * Participate in quality assurance activities such as peer review of code changes and participate in Agile ceremonies. WHAT YOU'LL NEED: * BS/BA degree or equivalent work experience * 8- 10 years of relevant work experience DESIRED SKILLS: * Hands-on development experience with Ruby on Rails, Cloudera, AWS Services, Data Lakes and Solr. * Ability to work in DevOps environment. * Experience working with automated deployments. * Demonstrated experience utilizing MySQL capabilities. * Ability to handle large volume of data, cleansing, enrichment techniques, NLP processing. * Experience with data visualization using Python, Tableau or D3. * Experience in open source development and knowledge of Git, JIRA and Jenkins. * Ability to write shell scripts, automation, basic administration, scheduling of jobs in Linux environment. * Design, develop and deliver software components for production systems in agile sprint schedule (two-week sprint cycle). * Understand and apply quality techniques and practices (automated unit testing, Test Driven Design/Development, continuous integration) * Working knowledge of typical development tools in Linux environments * Maintain and operate the deployed code, come up with performance monitors, tuning and improvements. * Web programming (HTML, CSS, JavaScript) * Model-View-Controller (MVC) or reactive concepts and related frameworks * Must be detail oriented, multi-tasking with good follow through skills WHAT GDIT CAN OFFER YOU: * Full-flex work week * 401K with company match * Challenging work that makes a real impact on the world around you * Diverse, highly collaborative teams Not sure this job's the one for you?
