We're a consulting company with a work-life balanced culture of excellence. Seeking a mid-level semi-full-time (20-40hrs) RoR full-stack dev.
Rocket House Inc (RHI) is seeking a remote Ruby on Rails full-stack web developer. RHI is a small boutique web development company based in San Francisco, CA, specializing in B2B applications.
RHI’s flagship clients are major beverage suppliers operating primarily within North America with operations in other major international regions too. This role will directly support their classic logistics products and be pivotal in the development of new products within their North American segment.
At RHI, we embrace the opportunistic flexibility of remote work and strive to build a culture that supports your personal lifestyle goals outside of work.
We don't care when you work, as long as you get your work done. Some team members like to ski during the day and work in the evening. Some like to work from their boat in a marina. We leave it up to you to decide how, when, and where you work best.
This flexibility only works because we place a high value on autonomy and ownership. We're a collaborative and supportive team. Zoom, Slack, and Git are our main collaboration tools. Daily standups, weekly check-ins, and client demos are all a part of our work process.
Our typical stack is a Javascript-based browser app powered by a Rails-based API. While the emphasis for this role is Ruby on Rails, the role will touch many parts of the stack, including the Javascript components too. Some of our software has been operational for over 8 years, so we’ve got a mix of older and newer technologies.
Since we support multiple clients, this will be an hourly role, and you’ll have to track your hours. We’re looking for someone who wants flexibility in their workload and is ok with most weeks being less than 40-hour workweeks. That said, we are gearing up for some big new projects, so for at least the next few months, expect to be busy.
We’re looking for a mid-level Ruby-on-Rails engineer, who’s been in the trenches for a few years, knows their stuff, and wants to own the back-end piece of the stack.
3+ years building, deploying, and maintaining Ruby-on-Rails powered apps
Direct experience working with Rails version 4 through version 6
2+ years experience developing apps with Backbone or React
Proficiency with web-development standards and practices
Fluent in Ruby and Javascript
Experienced with Linux, AWS, and Docker
Effective communicator, both written and verbal
If you’ve got some of the following experiences, great! It’s not necessary as you’ll get to learn a ton about our stack and of course, beverage supply-chain logistics.
Understanding of warehouse and inventory management, shipping logistics, and route planning
Working with container orchestration systems
Experience with Vue.js or Backbone
Previous experience working remotely
