Principal Software Engineer (Rails) About the Job We are looking for a Principal Software Engineer to join our Custom Government Engineering group. This position will initially focus on our identity management portfolio, including our single-sign-on (SSO) solution, multi-factor authentication (MFA2FA) options, and other related technologies. This is a challenging role where you will help design, implement, automate, and support all aspects of the project. You will work closely with our senior software engineers to aid in both the green-field side of the project, and to bring the solution up to enterprise-level industry standards. Our existing team has been very successful in delivering high quality, globally distributed, 100 uptime solutions as a result we are growing. Our footprint and capabilities are expanding, which will result in many opportunities to work on new solutions for our public sector customers. We are developing new applications regularly, and your passion for great software architecture, clean code, automation, and rapid (CICD) software delivery will keep us moving forward. As a subject matter expert, you will be expected to support our Operations team with related troubleshooting. Responsibilities middot Expected to be highly proactive when addressing issues concerning requirements, technical matters, and when resolving production issues. middot Must be a self-starterindependent worker who communicates and coordinates well with peers and management team. middot Must have the ability to work on complex projects and solve complex technical and operational problems. middot Act as a lead participant in the architecture, design, development, testing, implementation, maintenance, and support of highly complex solutions. middot Develop ope-rationalized software that integrates into the company suite of monitoring and service management. middot Work with the rest of the GCDS Portal team to improve current functionality and bring new features to the platform in the Ruby on Rails environment. middot Continue to evolve the web server platform to meet scaling, security, and compliance needs. middot Write and maintain strong unit, functional, and integration tests to be automated on a Jenkins instance. middot Lead and offer guidance on code reviews and other elements of Rails best practices. middot Acts as a resource for teammates with less experience. Location This position would be based out of Reston, VA office. Travel is minimal. There is an option to work from home on an occasional basis. About the Team The Custom Government Engineering team works with breadth and depth across Akamairsquos technology stack to deliver custom solutions for our Public Sector customers. The team has a strong relationship with our Operations team working in a collaborative fashion, we strive to build and operate world-class Application Delivery Networks for our customers. Basic Qualifications middot 5+ years of Ruby on Rails experience including unit testingtest driven development (Rails 456, Ruby 2.52.6) middot 3+ years RailsWebapp Administration (ApacheNginx, PumaPassengerThin) middot 10+ years general programming (Ruby, Python, Javascript, Perl, Java, CC++, etc) middot Linux proficiency middot Unix Shell scripting skills middot GitBitbucket or an equivalent source control system experience middot Postgresql or equivalent database experience middot Understanding of authenticationauthorization concepts, technologies and protocols middot Proficient knowledge of SDLC lifecycle middot Previous experience transitioning new products to mature offerings middot Previous experience working in an Agile, rapid release cycle middot Proficient with industry testing best practices middot Excellent written and verbal communication skills middot U.S. Citizenship middot Willing to apply for a U.S. Government security clearance Desired Qualifications middot Current security clearance middot Developing and supporting SaaS applications experience middot Linux system administration experience middot Network administration experience middot macOS proficiency middot Jenkins usage experience middot Javascript framework experience (React, AngularJS, etc.) middot Public sector experience middot Experience working with traditional Operations departments middot Contribution to software development community in forms of gems, plug-ins, publications or articles, or online portfolio. middot Agile project management tools (JIRA, Pivotal Tracker, etc.) Other Information middot Is ship required Yes middot Is a Security Clearance Required No If yes, applicants selected will be subject to a government security investigation must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.
