Apelon () is an international clinical informatics company focusing on data standardization and interoperability. Leading healthcare organizations use Apelon's products and services to better manage terminology assets. Our solutions help healthcare application vendors, biomedical researchers, provider organizations, biotech companies, and government agencies improve the quality, comparability, and accessibility of clinical information.
The Java Architect communicates with and works in collaboration with internal analysts and customers to help Apelon customers solve health information interoperability problems through designing and developing solutions and improvements for Apelon products.
Duties and Responsibilities
Lead the design and architecture of future releases of our terminology-based tools
Review existing architecture and propose improvements
Perform software development in the enterprise Java environment
Manage multiple projects and deadlines
Provide guidance to other developers regarding technology decisions and best practices
Gather and prioritize user requirements for custom software development
Maintain knowledge of current and emerging technologies, industry trends and standards
Potential to participate in national and international standards efforts
Occasional overnight travel required (being within commuting distance of Hingham, MA is a plus)
Qualifications
Experience with Java development (8+ years)
Experience architecting, designing, and developing applications, including web applications
Experience leading a development team, project management background highly desired
Experience with Maven and the Spring Framework
Knowledge of Relational Databases (MySQL, SQL Server, and Oracle preferred)
Knowledge of enterprise Application Servers (JBoss, WildFly, and GlassFish preferred)
Expertise in XML, JSON, SQL, and XSLT
Excellent spoken and written business English required
Nice to Have Skills
Experience in Healthcare
Familiarity with HL7 and FHIR
Experience with Ruby and Ruby on Rails
Experience with JIRA
Experience with Docker
Familiarity with standard clinical terminologies (e.g., SNOMED CT, LOINC, etc.)
Education
Bachelor's degree or Master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering or related field
