ABOUT THE OPPORTUNITY
We are looking for a CTO/tech lead to help organize our engineering team and work with our CEO to execute a robust product road map of new development features. The ideal candidate will have solid experience leading a team of 3 engineers or more. Experience working in a start-up environment is highly desirable. Strong project management experience, communication skills, leadership ability, and in-depth knowledge of cloud-based software industry best practices to help guide and scale a quickly growing team of talented engineers is a must.
We need someone who can delegate tasks, prioritize development goals in coordination with our CEO, and effectively communicate those priorities to our development team. You will be expected to have the highest standards for quality and prioritize clean, well-tested, scalable, well documented code. We're looking for a leader who can facilitate team communication, guide engineers through growing pains, take responsibility for developing creative solutions to complex problems, while holding the development team accountable for deadlines related to product enhancements and feature releases.
Successful candidates will have at least 4 years of experience with Rails, Dev Ops and Linux server administration. We expect a candidate to be familiar with AWS EC2 server management, RDS, S3, and caches on Elasticache, as you will be leading the efforts to scale our server architecture. Experience with RabbitMQ or other message broker services is also desired, as well as experience with Ruby’s EventMachine gem and/or other multithreaded processes.
Additionally, experience with Nginx, Capistrano, and Redis is desired. We expect you to have a deep knowledge of Rails best practices and the MVC framework, however we also expect you to be able to work with custom Ruby services built on plain-old-Ruby-objects that diverge from the traditional MVC framework.
This person will need to be located in the DC/Baltimore metro area, so they can work out of our company headquarters in Northern Virginia.
