ZURB (www.zurb.com/talent) is looking for a Ruby on Rails Web developer to work with our design strategy team. We’re a close-knit team that helps companies design better web sites, services, and products online. We’ve been around over 10 years and have over 75 startups in our client roster. Our clients range from large, well-known companies that we’ve helped for years (e.g., Photobucket, Zazzle, Playlist.com, the New York Stock Exchange) to brand-new startups just finding their feet (Qik, TinyPic). They all came to us based on our reputation of delivering killer ideas that work. We’re creative thinkers, risk takers and refuse to look at our work as just a job. We like fun projects and constantly push each other to get better at our craft.

Need a reason to join the team? Here are 17:

Food. We stock the cabinets with food. Yeah, most of it’s full of sugar, but we try to throw in some healthy snacks. Cup o’ noodles is still a weakness for some of us though.

401k plan. All you have to do is say how much and we do the rest.

Health insurance. 100% coverage.

And eye care. We also take care of those eyes.

And teeth too. We have dental coverage. Got to impress those clients :)

Cell phone coverage. Can you hear us now?

Profit sharing. We’re a team of entrepreneurial-thinking workers. It’s important to us that everyone see the benefits of their hard work.

Free dry cleaning. Hate dressing up? We’ve taken the hard work out of putting on the snazzy dress shirt or blouse.

Free house cleaning. Yep, we think getting stuff done at home is just as important as getting stuff done in the office.

A growing library. Need a book? Just put it on the wish list and it will be added to the ZURB library.

3 weeks vacation. And all those common holidays too. Work hard, play hard.

Lunches. Now and then we like to order sushi, and if you’re working late we don’t mind chipping in for dinner.

Start-ups. Some people go work for start-ups. At ZURB you get to help start start-ups.

Challenging work. We believe that everyone has a brain to think – we make you use every last brain cell.

Flex-time. Hey, things come up now and then. What’s dental coverage when you don’t have time to get those teeth drilled?

A great team. It’s fun to work on great projects, but it’s even better to learn something new from a team member.

What skills do we need?

As a Web developer, here are some of the things you'll be expected to do:

We're building our own web application that compliments our design strategy focus. Ruby on Rails seems like a good fit for the product and team, but we're flexible in working with another platform... keep in mind though that we heard the hype, we tried it for ourselves, and we've already taken the plunge—we've built a bunch of apps with Ruby on Rails. More joy, less code. Convention over configuration. The whole bit. Better than all that: we're having fun actually building a business around something useful and exciting to business users and designers.

You've got to be a stellar thinker who knows how move from brainstorm to prototype quick—it's all about momentum. You've got to be willing to change more than you love your code—mistakes are good, rapid iteration is great. You need to be articulate and a good writer—so that the whole team gets it.

Kinds of things you'll need to know

Ruby on Rails

MySQL

Subversion

We'll help you get into our setup and learn anything you are unfamiliar with. This is a very good environment for a new or experienced Rails programmer.

This position is available immediately, pays competitively and is full-time. You'll be working in our offices in downtown Campbell, where we have parking spaces, a Wii and a good attitude. We're a creative, fun-loving, hard-working team and if you thrive on the energy (read: chaos) of a startup environment, you'll like ZURB.

Are you in?

----------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Ok I’m in! What do I have to do?

We like creative thinkers, admire risk takers and refuse to look at our work as just a job.
Ruby on Rails Developer with Green Intelligence at: USA,CA, Burlingame

We are dedicated to making environmental information useful in new and beneficial ways.

We believe that while it is worthwhile to take steps to understand your product’s or your operation’s carbon footprint, it’s better to transform that information into business intelligence that can guide your green strategy.

Our software and professional services help you along the way, from picking the right data, to translating data into useful information, to enabling you with a decision making ability.

Measuring and managing greenhouse gas emissions has become a core focus of corporate sustainability, purchasing, and product development teams worldwide. Companies are looking to make more optimal environmental decisions. However, companies do not understand their impacts, risks, or where to focus their management effort. The emissions intelligence needed to inform and direct management decisions is largely unavailable. Furthermore, currently available carbon footprinting solutions are either difficult and costly, or else provide limited utility for companies looking to manage the environmental impact of their operations and products.

Most companies measure their emissions using simple spreadsheets downloaded from government or EPA websites, or they hire time and resource intensive LCA consultants who research the comprehensive environmental impact of their products and their supply chain. We are the first to market with an application based on a standardized method for measuring environmental impact initially developed by Carnegie Mellon Univeristy. Through extensive enhancements and by lowering the barrier to entry, we focus and streamline traditional LCA approaches giving companies peer-reviewed, transparent analytics in a timely and cost-effective emissions intelligence solution. Our unique emissions intelligence capabilities and data comprehensiveness and quality provide our customers maximum utility in informing business decisions about emissions reduction efforts, sources of competitive advantage, and managing impacts and risks.

We are currently seeking Ruby On Rails developers to join our team and build out this application.
Exciting fast growing solid start-up using hot new tools at: USA,New York, New York

Gilt Groupe provides access, by invitation only, to men’s and women’s coveted fashion and luxury brands at prices up to 70% off retail. Each sale lasts 36 hours and features hand selected styles from a single designer.

From Valentino to Diane von Furstenberg and John Varvatos, we offer a selection of merchandise at a range of prices.

Gilt Groupe is built upon proven, successful track records and is a fully funded company. Members of the founding team bring experience from Louis Vuitton, Bulgari, eBay, DoubleClick, Bergdorf Goodman, and Saks Fifth Avenue.
Our Motto: Simple and Beautiful

We're looking for the few individuals that have the knowledge, passion, and drive to change the way we shop for luxury items online. We are deploying the latest technology to support the highest quality user experience while gathering the data we need to support a data driven decision making process.

We are developing advanced technology including:

    * Single page checkout screens, using AJAX to support modifications.
    * Tight integration with logistics vendors to streamline the complete order fulfillment process.
    * Automated, live A/B testing focused on increasing customer conversion rates.

    * Love Scrum, have adapted key practices from Extreme Programming and admire Tufte's work.
    * Know or be interested in Ruby on Rails. You can learn this once you join, but you must have solid experience with several other web frameworks.
    * Have extensive database experience (from design to scalability). We're using Postgresql - but more importantly believe strongly in absolute data consistency for data that matters.
    * Thrive in a very fast moving environment, with lots of freedom in the technologies and applications you develop. Interested in developing applications for the iPhone? So are we. Interested in working hard with long hours? So are we.
    * Have been the best hacker / developer at your present work place. If you frequently hear others admire your work and efficiency, you might be the right person for Gilt.
    * Quick learner with a "just do it" approach.

We're building software to support a new concept in the sales of luxury items. We think it's a great idea - somebody else has proven the business model and it's a large opportunity for us. Fashion experience is a bonus, but hey...

Are you a senior Ruby on Rails developer looking for an opportunity to redefine corporate web applications? Have you ever used an intranet, extranet, or a wiki, and absolutely knew that you could build something better if you had the chance? Are you currently a Java or .Net guru that wants to stop doing Rails projects as a hobby or side job?

iCrossing, a global digital marketing company, is looking for an experienced senior Rails developer to help our VP of Enterprise Applications disrupt the current crop of corporate web-based applications. You’ll be developing simple, elegant, and innovative solutions for us using your favorite framework: Rails. We’ll be honest, on occasion, you’ll have to edit some legacy PHP code, write VBScripts, tweak some C#, and handle some system maintenance, but it’s all part of being a senior developer.

If you’re the right person, you have a deep interest in the web, development, and enjoy working in a user-focused, team-based environment. Passion is an absolute must; if you’re looking for a standard corporate IT gig, this is not the job for you.
Help Design the White Box Testing Strategy for a Cutting Edge Online Retailer at: USA,NY, New York

Help Design the White Box Testing Strategy for a Cutting Edge Online Retailer

The Quality Assurance Engineer who wants to leverage solid web applications QA experience and help design and execute a white box testing strategy for an eCommerce site will get their careers into high gear at Gilt Groupe, an online, members-only luxury fashion eCommerce company in New York's Chelsea district. Working within an Agile development model you'll find the Gilt Groupe highly receptive to your ideas. As our QA Engineer you'll join an elite development/QA team and position yourself for future career advancement with a growing company. A key skill for us is your ability to write code in at least one scripting language – ideally Ruby. You'll be on the leading edge of the digital retail experience here, and will experience the unique QA challenges of our application. Gilt Groupe's web application takes on dizzying traffic spikes each day during a sale as we heavily discount an award winning designer's goods and put out "while they last" notifications to our burgeoning member list.

Launched in November 2007, Gilt Groupe is a new and exciting online fashion business, revolutionizing the way consumers across America shop. Headquartered in New York, Gilt Groupe is a members-only sample sale website, providing an exclusive sneak-peek into the latest collections of high-end fashion at highly discounted prices. With a limited time window of 24-48 hours to shop each designer sale, members have exclusive access to a fresh and exciting roster of desirable merchandise every week! Gilt Groupe is built upon proven, successful track records and is a fully funded company. Members of the founding team bring experience from eBay, DoubleClick, Saks Fifth Avenue and many more. We are growing rapidly and offer very competitive pay with equity. You'll enjoy perks such as world class teammates, awesome Macbooks, drinks and snacks, PDA / smart phone reimbursement and full benefits.

As our QA Engineer your first mission will be to learn how greatly we vary from the typical online retailer. We get new sales data every day, and that results in a huge spike in daily traffic when we announce an exclusive offering to our members, with a limited time for them to log on and purchase. Some items will sell out in about two hours, so in this time sensitive environment QA is tied directly to our revenue stream. Your ability to find and eliminate bugs, especially if they negatively impact the user interface, will be critical to your success because members of Gilt.com buy on average within 45 seconds of logging on. From a strategic perspective, we'll look to you for insights in helping us develop the optimal white box testing strategy for this unique eCommerce environment. Your ability to code will be key and we'll expect strong competency in Ruby Python, Perl or Bash, with Ruby being ideal because it's a big part of our code base. Javascript would be valuable to us as well for similar reasons. Testing across multiple browsers will be essential, as our users get to us via Firefox, Internet Explorer, Safari and now the iPhone. Selenium is our tool for automated testing of JavaScript and will allow you to simulate user scenarios and test for functionality. Likewise, Watir experience would be great because of Ruby. The technical depth and coding skills we're looking for will likely come from a BS in computer science or equivalent. Prior work on application development or QA of highly scalable web applications will allow you to hit the ground running.

Ruby and Rails Engineer for Cloud Computing Platform Company at: USA,NY, New York

At 10gen, we have a broad and deep interest in the integration of dynamic languages and cloud computing. While JavaScript was the language we started with, we're now looking at Ruby. The Ruby and Rails engineer will lead the development of our Ruby and Rails efforts, helping us understand the Ruby language, the Rails framework and the culture of the Ruby/Rails community.
The Requirements

    * Professional experience with multiple languages including Ruby.
    * Demonstrated experience with Ruby on Rails in production environments - you must have "used it in anger".
    * Experience with working with systems at a low level - for example, implementing a language compiler or interpreter.

MORE INFO
10gen's platform is an application server that can run multiple languages concurrently; one is Ruby. 10gen has its own implementation of Ruby and Ruby application developers can run their programs much better using the 10gen platform. We implement the Ruby language as well as the Rails framework. We can carry much larger loads at a more economical cost than the existing Rails framework.

We'll need someone who's a web developer and understands how to build applications using RoR. Developers will find 10gen to be a cool solution when they want to build their apps into production. We'll be able to demonstrate a commanding difference in the performance of those applications. We're re-writing parts of the Rails framework to accomplish what we do because our application server is written from the ground up for use in Cloud deployments.

WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR
We're looking for the few individuals that have the knowledge, passion, and drive to change the way we shop for luxury items online. We are deploying the latest technology to support the highest quality user experience while gathering the data we need to support a data driven decision-making process.
We are developing advanced technology including:

    * Single page checkout screens, using AJAX to support modifications.
    * Tight integration with logistics vendors to streamline the complete order fulfillment process.
    * Automated, live A/B testing focused on increasing customer conversion rates.
    * Advanced, live, scalable inventory management systems.
    * Unique, world-class online experiences.

Developers that will thrive with us will:

    * Be passionate in solving complex problems using simple creative solutions. You appreciate well-written code that is simple and easy to maintain.
    * Quick learner with a "just do it" approach.
    * We're building software to support a new concept in the sales of luxury items. We think it's a great idea - somebody else has proven the business model and it's a large opportunity for us. Fashion experience is a bonus, but hey...

Location - New York City - Chelsea

Compensation
