Location: Telecommuting position, but MUST be local to Southern CA or Kansas City, KS -- must be available for occasional meetings in Pasadena
Experience: At least 5 years.
Education: 4-year degree or equivalent in work experience

Fast-paced, agile, internet startup is seeking a talented and dynamic web developer! Work from home on an exciting, challenging, web-based application. You love Rails and find it painful to develop for the web in any other language/platform.

We are developing a web-based application that will revolutionize the way cities, businesses, organizations, and residents interact. Join us and become a part of that revolution! You will work independently on a contract basis.

Position duties:
* Work with a small team of developers on a complex and challenging project
* Other duties, as required, related to building a top notch company (we all wear many hats)!

* Bachelor's degree in a technical field or solid experience in a relevant area
* 3+ years solid experience with Ruby on Rails (This is a MUST - Do not apply if this is not the case!)
* Solid understanding of OOP and MVC
* 5+ years of solid MySQL or other SQL based database system (Oracle, Postgres, SQLServer, SyBase, etc.)
* Proficient with HTML and CSS
* Experience using version control systems like SVN and/or Git
* Know and practice TDD/BDD (Test Driven Development/Behavior Driven Development)
* Comfortable in an Agile development environment
* Unix/Linux/FreeBSD experience
* Exceptional logic and critical thinking skills
* Self-driven and highly motivated
* Versatile and adaptable
* Loves challenges

* Experience developing high traffic web-based applications
* Experience writing Ruby Gems, Plugins or Rails contributions
* Experience with complex JavaScripting and/or Prototype or JQuery
