Senior Systems Admin - Rails Deployment

Location: Telecommuting position, but MUST be local to Southern CA or Kansas City, KS -- must be available for occasional meetings in Pasadena
Experience: at least 5 years experience in a multi-server environment running larger scale applications
Education: 4-year degree or equivalent experience
Compensation: commensurate on experience

Fast-paced, agile, internet startup is seeking an experienced and talented Senior Systems Administrator! Work from home on an exciting, challenging web-based application. This will start off part time and move to full time.

We are developing a web-based application that will revolutionize the way cities, businesses, organizations, and residents interact. Join us and become a part of that revolution! You will work independently on a contract basis.

Position duties:
* Work with a small team of developers on a complex and challenging project
* Establish a stable and scalable system that will grow with the needs of the application
* Proactively monitor all systems and keep them active
* Proactively research and provide ways to enhance scalability and stability
* Maintain and enforce systems and services security
* Other duties, as required, related to building a top notch company (we all wear many hats)!

* 5+ years in remote Linux/Unix server and network administration
* 3+ years supporting web application servers and deployments
* 3+ years administrating Apache web servers and configurations
* 1+ years of Ruby on Rails systems support and deployments (Capistrano, etc...)
* 2+ years with scaling application architecture for large applications (high bandwidth networks, load balancers, etc...)
* 2+ years of solid MySQL or other SQL based database system administration (Oracle, Postgres, SQLServer, SyBase, etc.)
* 3+ years supporting and establishing security policies
* Experience setting up LDAP, email systems and supporting other enterprise systems
* Experience with Bash, Perl and other system customization scripting
* Must be consistent regarding documentation of systems and architecture
* Mature and able to communicate well regarding issues and solutions
* Exceptional logic and critical thinking skills
* Self-driven and highly motivated

* Experience supporting high traffic web-based applications
* Experience with Mac OS X support and configurations
* Basic experience developing in Ruby on Rails or other web languages
