Ruby Programmer Analyst

RESPONSIBILITIES

* Designing, developing, and maintaining new and existing business applications under the guidance of a Senior Programmer Analyst or Operations Manager
* Designing and developing Ad-hoc reports and/or queries
* Leveraging test procedures to ensure all applications are developed to spec
* Creating program and system documentation (TDD, schema diagrams, etc) for internal and external clients
* Reviewing business requirements and supporting documentation and/or change requests as required
* Participating in project teams (may be cross-functional) to implement new and modified client business requirements;
* Providing internal operation teams with technical and analytical expertise, interpretative insight and consultation;
* Supporting development and maintenance of a team technology infrastructure and enhanced business processes;
* Proactively identifying process improvement opportunities or new revenue generating ideas and proposing solutions to the Operations Leadership Team.
* Providing technical guidance and review to other team members by conducting technical walkthroughs.
* Demonstrates excellent written and verbal communication skills.
* Regularly practices active listening.
* Transform client requirements into a well-developed application or report

FUNCTIONAL SKILLS

* Intermediate level technical skills required in the following:

* SQL (any variant, though this team currently relies heavily on MySQL, Microsoft SQL Server and Oracle)
* Proficiency in Ruby and at least one other scripting language (e.g. Python, Perl, PHP)
* Proficiency in at least one web application frame work (e.g. Rails, Merb, Django, Pylons)
* Microsoft Excel solution design
* Understanding of object-oriented design and programming
* Test driven approaches to solution development

EDUCATION

* Bachelor's Degree with a focus in Computer Science, Engineering or other technology focused disciplines

EXPERIENCE

0-3 years experience in technology based role (i.e. Jr. Programmer/Analyst)

* Microsoft Access skills
* Interest in iterative development methods (XP, Scrum, etc.) - this domain does not currently operate as an agile development shop, but the nature of many projects strongly suggest such)
* This role is not primarily external client facing; however, external client meetings may be required from time to time
