Job Description:
The Ruby on Rails Back-End Developer (RORBED) will be primarily responsible for detail design, coding tasks and
selection and integration of open-source libraries and components. This candidate will be able to think creatively
and brainstorm with our team to find original and ground-breaking approaches to contribute to our new media
technology department. The RORBED will be comfortable working under tight schedules and handle pressure
well. The RORBED will have excellent coding habits, documenting and communication skills so that others can
understand their work clearly.
Required Skills:
• 5+ years experience in developing complex, commercial web applications (RoR/J2EE/PHP/Python)
• Demonstrated record of success in developing Ruby on Rails solutions
• Experience using agile development methodologies like Scrum and XP desirable.
• Strong believer and practitioner of unit testing, mocks and TDD
• Strong middle-tier development experience (stronger in MC, less so in V)
• Strong knowledge of SQL using a major commercial database
• Familiarity with product development in a consumer facing product
• Experience with Object-Oriented Analysis and Design, Design Patterns, Refactoring, is highly desirable
• Experience with Git or SVN (prefer Git)
Preferred Knowledge and Skills:
• Front-end development and standard web technologies: CSS, XHTML, HTML, AJAX, XML, HTTP
• Facebook App and/or OpenSocial development
• Frequent user of Social Media networks including: Facebook, Twitter, Flickr, YouTube, blogging, etc.
• Passionate about using and contributing to Open Source
• Mac Book Pro
• Self-motivated and energetic
• Practical experience with Agile Development Methodologies
