Description:

Hey all !

My name is François Beausoleil, from Eastern Canada. I own and operate International Technological Solutions, a company I started in early 2005. My whole business model is based on Rails, Subversion, test driven development and fast deployments. Business is booming, and I need a Rails developer to help me handle the workload. This offer is for an ongoing relationship: our first project will determine the future of our association.

I need someone with ideas and initiative. If after reading a user story you find some good ideas to extend it, I really need to hear about those. If during coding you find a glaring mistake, you should correct it. No fluff, just code !

The work we will be doing together is not earth-shattering, but makes the customer's life easier. And that is the most important thing, in the end. I do a mixture of accounting software, contact relationship management and application mashups (Google Maps, Yahoo! Maps, Flickr, etc).

Your first project will be extending CareerNudge.com. I have a few user stories which need to be implemented. Some are already partially implemented. There are also other projects in the pipeline waiting for you.

You will be paid as a subcontrator. This means you will invoice me regularly, every two weeks or so. Payment will be using PayPal, or a check in the mail. I can pay in CAD or USD. If you would like to be paid in another currency, let me know and I'll see what I can do.

You must be in a time zone that allows us to chat during at least part of my day: 09:00 to 21:00-0500 (-0400 on Sunday). I would also like to try pair programming at some point.

What I need to see from you:
* Two or three samples of unit tests you have written (very important);
* URLs to applications you have deployed;
* URL to your blog, if any;
* URL of interesting threads in the Rails mailing lists (rails or rails-core) where you have participated;
* One or more Rails ticket numbers of patches you submitted, if any.

Good luck to you all !

Required Skills:

You should be very familiar with the following:
* Test Driven Development (unit testing)
* Subversion (tagging, branching, merging)
* Rails Edge (all my apps are on Rails Edge)
* Data model design (3rd normal form)
* Capistrano (formerly SwitchTower)

Desired skills:

Candidates with experience deploying on Debian should definitely pipe up. My VPS-based production server needs a bit of help :) It runs Lighttpd and SCGI.
